In Stitches

After attending his cousin Sydney's pirate birthday party recently, James decided he wanted to not only wear but NEED an eye patch. Here is a picture of him feeling inspired:

So... today he went swimming at Syd and Brynn's house (and Claire's, though she wasn't as involved)... and his aspirations very nearly came true. Here is a picture of the kiddos swimming:
And here is James standing up against the side of the pool (the boy loves swimming; he's fearless):
And here is a picture of him falling head first onto the grass and the mommy-was-unaware-of-my-existence, dangerous hose:

Oh wait... there isn't one. I was too busy WATCHING BLOOD DRAIN DOWN JAMES' FACE to snap a pic! That's right... he totally landed on a hose that none of us realized was there or even thought would present a problem. Somehow he missed his actual eye (thank goodness for that), but just above his eyebrow on the right side, he got a pretty nasty cut. We weren't sure if he needed stitches, but I took him into Dr. Stevens anyway (we LOVE him, btw). He left the office with three pretty stitches all in a row.

My poor baby! I felt awful. But once the pinning-James-down (restriction is his least favorite part of medical procedures thus far) was over and we went to see Daddy at work, he felt lots better. Here are a few "after" shots (though I didn't take the bandaid off, so you'll have to stay tuned for the blood and gore):

See? All better! Sponge Bob sure helped... and his near-exhaustion giggles helped MOMMY feel better, too! :)

So sad. He is going to hate coming to our house. Bonking his chin on the picnic table, barfing and now stitches. I'm glad he is alright.

so after all of your spell checking, you still got procedures wrong...that's awesome! see--you could've focused on talking to me anyways. =) i'm still sorry you had a rough day, but at least james looks like he made it through okay. =)

Sweet swim shorts! He's a stud! Wow. I can't believe he had to get stitches! Poor guy! He beat me to that milestone. I'm glad to see that James is all smiley. He is one happy kid. You must be doing something right!

btw, poor dr. stevens. I'm pretty sure he has basket cases as patients. Once I saved a diaper because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to accurately describe its contents. . . not kidding. Then he's now got you and Britt. . . need I say more?! How's the snip?

(ps, my word verification is this: ivqeerha. . . interesting)

Replies:

1. Shawn, he still loves your house. He has a short memory, lucky for me!

2. Tori, I totally did. Thanks for pointing it out (sounds sarcastic, but I mean it... I crave perfection). :)

3. Aubrey- no snip yet. Postponed 'til Monday. And yes... interesting.

James, Grandma loves you !!!! I'll be there soon... you have a good mommy and daddy who love you lots. Life is a journey, not a destination! Remember to ALWAYS deal with trials with a smile :)

Holy crap! That sucks. Poor little James. Once a helpless little baby is born, it's only a matter of time before his perfect skin/bones/limbs/etc. start deteriorating in a manner such as this. I hope he's feeling better!

Also, what's this snip Aubrey is talking about? I must know, because I think I might know already. Call me or email me.

He actually looks happier in the "after" pics. Maybe he should get cut more often. I guess you can test the theory this week (poor guy!).

I hope tomorrow goes well for you! Love to your little man!

Dang you guys have a cute kid. That's sad about his poor little head, but he looks to be handling it with poise. As for the other cut that's coming, let's hope he handles that one well also. PS - we had a great time with you guys the other day, we need to hang out more.
