My baby is ONE!!!

My itty bitty has turned into a toddler.

It's official. He eats and drinks like a normal little man. He talks. He walks. HE TODDLES! I went through a teeny bit of a mourning period due to the "loss" of my baby, but his new tricks are super fun, so I recovered quickly. :)
Some of these new tricks are:
[1.] He walks now! He took his first intentional steps (ie, "walk walk to momma") when he was 10 1/2 - 11 months old, but due to his surgery and all that, it took him a while to gain enough practice to be confident at it. Then, yesterday, he decided it was an efficient mode of transportation. Now we have an adorable little drunken sailor toddling around our house. Very, very cute.
[2.] He talks! I think his first word was "adad" (meaning "daddy"). I can't remember for the life of me how old he was when he said it, though. Next was "yay" whilst clapping. Now, however, he says the cutest word of all: "HI!" Okay, so the word itself is not all that cute, but the way he says it definitely is! All scrunchy-nosed and sweet sounding... "haaaii!" I swoon just thinking about it. Ah...
[3.] He makes animal sounds. I can make that plural because there are two. :) He makes the doggy sound and the elephant sound. "Uff uff!" What a doll!
---- I should make #4: "He doesn't hold still long enough to get any decent videos or photos of him actually performing said tricks." :) I think we have some, though. I'll post them later, perhaps.

OKAY! I'll quit stalling... Here are pictures (etc.) of our little James' 1st Birthday PART-AY:

It was a gorgeous, clear day, and Julie's backyard was a picture-perfect backdrop that set the scene wonderfully.
Dinner. First tine eating a hot dog. Mmm!
Ready for gifts, but wanting to swim (fyi, a pool is very distracting for a 1-year-old):

He was pleasant at first, during dinner and even the first part of gift opening, but he wasn't really getting into the excitement.
That quickly changed.

The cake.
James also had his own "smash cake."
Swimming is fun... but, Mommy, I'm freezing my tooshie off!

The aftermath:
Disregard my exhausted-hostess smile. Check out my exhausted birthday-boy! Phew! What a day!

And because this post is not quite long enough.... I want to thank all of our wonderful friends and family who love us and support us (and spoil James with way too many presents) and transform potentially-stressful events into a fun and relaxing lil' piece of home.

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY, JAMES!

So I feel like the biggest idiot of all. I didn't know or didn't realize maybe that sounds better that people could post on a persons blog. Somehow I discovered it today, and you are the best commenter ever and I feel horrible that I didn't know that. Thank you so much for all the feedback you leave on my blog. It makes me so happy to know that you enjoy it.

Congratulations on your little boy turning one. It is such a big step and it really is a hard one as a mom. So I am a little behind...what surgery are you talking about? I know he wasn't feeling so well when you came down, but me being the horrible friend I am never followed up.
