Recently James and I went on our very own vacation down to New Mexico. My little sister, Tori, is getting married soon, and my mom flew us down to hang out for a weekend (aka: 5 days, including 2 for traveling). We were able to be there to help her dress shop (gaaaaah-geous) and to co-host her bridal shower (flavored lubricant, anyone?). It was tons of fun... and surprisingly NOT stressful, as I'd anticipated! James was amazing. Such a trooper. He and I majorly bonded, and I was so DARNED proud of him for helping me out and being adorable and fun... and seriously, not a pain at all. He shopped 'til he dropped, had his routine absolutely screwed up to the point on non-existence, went with Uncle Nelson for hours WITHOUT MOMMY and without crying endlessly due to that fact... ah, the list goes on. He's wonderful. I love him.
Perhaps as a reward for this amazing behavior, James gained another sibling. We already had to bring Bear with us (Heaven forbid we separate the two... they're BFFs for sure)... and blankie and binkie. They were the trio necessary for peace and sleep. But when we got to the Tucson airport, my mom was there to pick us up. And she'd brought (besides Tori) a friend. She told James, "I brought you a friend for Bear!" James immediately grabbed the teddy bear into a snuggle, cooing, "Ooohhh, Friend!" He hasn't let go of him since.
So now we have an entourage. When it's bedtime, we gather Bear, blankie, binkie and Friend. :) Needless to say, I hated my mom just a little bit when we had to haul TWO bears throughout the airport and on the plane (though they do make nice pillows for a certain sleepy pair of travelers). It's nice to be home. And we're glad to have Friend as a part of our family.
PS. For the record, Bear and Friend are wonderful to one another. It gives me hope (not that I was too worried, esp. after staying with Baby Kua for a week) that James will make a fantastic older brother... someday. James even has them kiss. ("Beaw, Fwen, kiss?" followed by their furry little noses kissing, accompanied by a smooching sound by James.) lol. Too cute.
PS#2. A random addition, but something I have been meaning to write down so I remember: James says a bazillion things nowadays. Really, he's abnormally vocal. It makes me proud, though I know I've had little to do with it. But he says a few things really funny- and really similarly. Derek and I were reminiscing this recently, and I wanted to write it down. Said that. Hm. Okay. "Money. Mah-ney. Wuh-ney (like money but with a "w")." Meanings? You'd never guess! "Money" = Bunny. "Mah-ney" = Bonnie (aunt). "Wuh-ney" = Funny. And it is... he is. We're really quite smitten by him. Could you tell?? ;)

Becca, you really think you had little to do with him being so vocal? Seriously? I don't think I would have needed all of those human development classes to teach me about nature and nurture and I think this kid's got both in the vocality department. And yes, I made up that word. Vocality. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
We missed you at book club.
I am glad you got to go down and see your family. Jake also has a new friend at our house. It is a stuffed frog Mindy and the girls brought over for him. He has named it "Bear Hater". Fitting since it is always beating up my stuffed bear! Yeah.
LoL- awesome.
I'm so glad that James was so great on your trip, sounds SO fun! We DEFINETLY need to get together soon! My schedule is a little nutty until Spring Break (April 9th-13th) during which I'll finally be able to take a breather, and I'd LOVE to get together then! Addie and James would have tons of fun together. Addie is constantly shocking me with how vocal she is, so it'll be nice for her to have a little buddy to "chat" with.
That is so cute!!! And don't you just love an entourage!! it is so funny when they have to take a hundred things with them. And I do not envy you having two big bears to haul through the airport!! You are a trooper!! James certainly will make an awesome older brother!!! He is so great with Kua! So you get to work on that!!
Hey miss you!
So, so cute. You know I adore your boy. I think it is so cute that he loves his bears. Claire has been hanging out a lot with a stuffed puppy lately so we shall see.
You're lucky James only has two "friends". Steven has about twenty stuffed animals (friends) on his bed, and he knows them all which means he also knows if one is missing. They all have to be there for bedtime! I am glad you are having such fun with your little guy. I love watching and hearing them learn to talk.
